East Village Fly Fishing Lessons
Have you ever thought about trying fly fishing on the Bow River? Maybe you thought it looked too difficult to learn or that you wouldn't know where to start. Drift Out West Fly Fishing is collaborating with East Village to offer a "Learn to Fly Fish" program! Learn a few basic flyfishing knots, what type of rod and reel to use, how to cast, which flies to use, and a little bit about bugs. This program is for anyone interested in learning to fly fish from 14 years of age and up. Participants need to be comfortable walking along the banks and wading in the Bow River. Lessons are very interactive, with a maximum of 6 participants for the scheduled lesson dates.
- Lesson dates are: • May 19 (cancelled) • June 8 (Sold out) • July 27 (Sold out) • August 16 (Sold out) • September 14 (available August 7)
- Lessons will be held on St. Patricks Island across the river from East Village, from 8:00am to 12:00pm (4 hrs total). Once you have registered you will recieve an email with a meeting place.
- Lessons will start promptly at 8:00am. Please arrive a few minutes early to get oriented and geared up. Boots, waders, rods and flies will be provided. Please provide your shoe size and waist size when you register.
- Participants need good mobility as we'll be walking on river rocks that are wet and slippery.
- Please dress for the weather; wear a hat, sunglasses (polarized to help see into the water), and suncreen. Also bring something to drink and a snack if you have a tendency to get hungry between breakfast and lunch.
- Remember you will need an Alberta Wildlife Identification Number-WIN ($6.00), in order to purchase an Alberta Sportfishing License (Alberta resident $28.00). There is a link at the top of this page (Fishing License), that will direct you to Alberta Relm, where you will need to create an account and can purchase your license.
- A $40 payment is required at the time of booking. Once you've authorized the $40 payment with PayPal, make sure you click the blue confirm "schedule event" button on this page. You will then receive a confirmation email right away. If you do not get a confirmation email, please contact Drift Out West Fly Fishing. Unfortunately, there is no refund for no shows. If you know you can not make it to the lesson ahead of time, please let me know, we have a wait list.
